Nothing and Everything Happened

Pryzma Collective

In search of the impact of the seemingly insignificant, works selected explore the fragility of trace by amplifying the imperceptible.

Building on the Freudian understanding of trauma, Ola Teper’s work explores the mechanisms of it through a photographic metaphor. As one of the treatments for trauma involves eye movement as a gateway to the unconscious, shifting from left to right is a reoccurring theme.

Zara Pears explores the cognitive processes of repression and recollection in relation to trauma and the body's latent response to past events.

David West’s work examines the complex relationships between the natural world and the human body, bringing to light beings caught in time. Under the constraint of COVID-19 David has re-directed his camera making himself simultaneously the sitter and maker of his work.

Also considering COVID-19, Amanda Gordon's work addresses the abjectness and fragility of our bodies and in particular the current threat associated with our oral excretions and their potential to contaminate.

Artist biography

Pryzma was born out of a desire to create a collaborative space where peer support and creative momentum could be maintained after completion of academic study. The show consists of photographs, projections, moving image pieces and sculpture elements.
