The Happenings

Philip Sinden

Shot on film on a 5x4 camera which encourages a slow working process. They are called the happenings as each scene played out in front of the camera and my decision was in a sense what to include in the frame and what to leave out. Having made the decision to set the camera up in a particular place which involved building the camera parts together I could sometimes find myself rooted to the spot for hours waiting for what I felt was the right moment to make the photograph. I think of these as documentary images with a greater overview which gives them a connection as a series.
