Something Almost Tangible

Elise Wootten

Something Almost Tangible brings together three series of work by artist Elise Wootten.

The work reflects an interest in the nature of photography, the visual and physical flatness of the print and the perspective determined by the lens. Embracing these characteristics as a way to create illusion and taking advantage of photography’s seeming veracity.

Almost sculpture, almost collage the photographs have a physical quality that play with the viewers understanding of the image. The work uses photography not only as medium but as subject. Visually closer to painting, the work can be defined as still life in an abstract understanding of the genre within a contemporary photographic context.

The viewer is invited to uncover the subject’s visual potential and experience mystery within its space.
